Vincent Cross is a singer-songwriter, essayist, and educator whose music bridges continents and generations. Born in Ireland and raised in Australia, he now calls New York City home—a melting pot that fuels his unique blend of traditional Irish folk, American bluegrass, and contemporary songwriting.
Over the past two decades, Cross has released five acclaimed full-length albums. His debut, Home Away from Home (2008), introduced listeners to his warm reinterpretations of traditional bluegrass melodies and commentary, while A Town Called Normal (2013) and Old Songs for Modern Folk (2016) cemented his reputation for innovative songwriting. The latter debuted at #2 on the International Folk DJ Albums Chart, was nominated for an Independent Music Award, and earned him the description “impeccably gifted” (Big City Rhythm & Blues).
His 2020 release, The Life & Times of James “The Rooster” Corcoran, is a musical biopic exploring the legend of a distant Irish relative and notorious 1840s gangland figure who led a colony of Irish families in Manhattan. The project was praised as “a subtle but powerful portrait” (PopMatters) and “compelling [and] timeless” (BrooklynVegan).
Now, Cross returns with his fifth full-length album, A Place Where Songs Come to Live (Rescue Dog Records, 2025). Anchored by the deeply intimate single “In the Eyes of My Father”—which reached #3 on the Folk DJ Charts and was a finalist in the International Acoustic Music Awards (2025)—the record reflects on his father’s immigration to Australia in the 1970s and his own experience as an immigrant in New York City. The album itself debuted as a Top 10 Folk DJ Charts release (#8 Album, June 2025), earning Cross recognition as a Top 10 Artist that month. Americana Highways called it “soul-stirring… filled with values, memories, and the relationships that shape us,” while Rambles.NET hailed Cross as “a true artist… teaching us there’s room for more.”
Recorded live at Brooklyn’s legendary Creamery Studios with an electric band (bass, drums, pedal steel, and guitars), the album captures the immediacy of live performance. From the haunting vulnerability of “In the Eyes of My Father” to the tender tribute “My Sister Was Like a Mother to Me” and the introspective wanderings of “Wilderness” and “Horses Are Wild,” the songs are vivid reflections on life’s profound moments. Even the joyful “Boom Box”—a celebration of music’s necessity—resonates with authenticity and warmth.
In summer 2025, Cross completed a 22-date solo tour of Australia, further solidifying his international reputation with performances from Sydney to Alice Springs. He has also appeared at major festivals worldwide, including TelemarkFestivalen (Norway), The Hebridean Celtic Festival (Scotland), The Maverick Americana Festival (UK), The Brooklyn Folk Festival (NYC), The Long Island Bluegrass Festival (NY), The Dripping Springs Songwriter Festival (TX), The New England Folk Festival (MA), The South Florida Folk Festival (FL), Keepsake at Meadowlark Festival (NY), and the Top Half Folk Festival (Australia).
With glowing international reviews, award recognition, and a growing touring profile, 2025 marks a high point in Vincent Cross’s career—a moment where his storytelling, tradition-informed songwriting, and transatlantic folk roots converge into a singular voice.
